According to Mary Meeker's report, more than half of the world's population now has access to the internet. About 53 percent of them come from the Asia-Pacific region. The report also gives special attention to India, which is said to represent 12 percent of internet users in the world, making it the second largest market in the world. China took first place (21 percent), while the United States took third place with eight percent.
The enormous growth in numbers is credited to Reliance Jio. With 307 million subscriptions for mobile telephone services, telco would expand offline access to e-commerce. "We are creating a hybrid, online-to-offline commerce platform by integrating the physical marketplace of Reliance Retail with Jio's digital infrastructure and services," quoted Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani. "This platform brings together 350 million customer traders at Reliance Retail stores, 307 million Jio connectivity customers and 30 million small traders all over India who offer last-minute physical market connectivity."
Reliance Jio offers free voice calls and inexpensive data plans that have contributed to dual data usage in one year. The annual data usage of Jio was between 17-18 exabytes (17-18 billion GB) in 2018, almost a growth of 9 exabytes of data usage in FY 2017. The number of offline stores of Reliance is said to be around 11,000, while the company is plans to use his more than 5,100 Jio point stores in 5,000 cities and villages as delivery and collection points for his e-commerce business. It is expected that the company will expand its direct reach to 95 percent of the Indian population.
