Madrid: Real Madrid signed Wednesday for the abandoned Ferland Mendy of Olympique Lyonnais on Wednesday for 48 million euros in the final bid to strengthen their game for next season.
The movement, confirmed by both clubs, brought the La Liga club's summer spending to an estimated 300 million euros ($ 339 million) as they attempted to return from a trophyless 2018-19 season in which they employed three coaches.
The club has also advanced Belgium Hazard from Chelsea for 100 million euros, as well as Serbian striker Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt, Brazilian Rodrygo from Santos and central defender Eder Militao from Porto.
Mendy, who signed a six-year contract, joined Lyon in 2017 from Le Havre. The 24-year-old made 79 appearances, scored three goals and provided seven assists.
He played for France four times since his debut in November in a friendly game against Uruguay.
Real Madrid initially pays 48 million euros for Mendy with a possible further 5 million euros in incentive premiums.
