& # 39; Only came to the World Cup to perform Dhoni & # 39 ;: The Curious Case by Martin Guptill & # 39; s Nightmare With the Bat

Martin Guptill seemed to be in the mood today. After a big swing and a miss from the very first ball, he took a deep breath, set his nerves and quickly hit a six and a four and announced his intentions.

After a scorching tournament, it seemed as if the shocking opener finally let his willow talk on the biggest stage of all: the World Cup final in the cricket mecca, that of the Lord.

But he was flattered to mislead. After a quick start, he played and missed an episode of Chris Woakes and was hit perpendicular to the stumps. He took a review, hoping against the hope that he survived the shock, just as his partner on the other hand did before. But repetitions showed that the ball would have been hit in the middle of the center stump.

The assessment wasted in a World Cup final. It was exactly that kind of a World Cup for Guptill. After scoring half a century in the New Zealand opener against Sri Lanka, he failed to continue and he might be the worst XI side of almost everyone.

He entered the World Cup and was one of the most important figures for the Black Caps and scored two consecutive centuries. He was on average more than 50 since the last World Cup in Australia, where he was the top scorer with more than 500 runs. All that shape disappeared from the window when he set foot in England.

And yet New Zealand has made a second consecutive final. Credit for that would also go partly to him, for the memorable running out of MS Dhoni in the semi-final, when the match could have continued in both cases. His direct hit would be remembered long after the tournament was over, if only for how it broke a billion hearts in India.

If he has failed with the bat, at least he has his field work for him.

His resignation in the final led to dozens of memes and attacks on social media, with fans asking if he had just come to the World Cup to deport Dhoni.

He was also beaten by fans because he lost the review so early in the turns.
